India vs West Indies, LIVE Score, 2nd ODI at Visakhapatnam: Windies opt to field as Evin Lewis returns to playing XI

13:28 (IST)

Both the teams are observing two-minute silence in memory of West Indies legend Basil Butcher who passed away a day ago.

West Indies win the toss and opt to field. India have to do it the hard way here and they will look to the top order for runs without which they will struggle even on a good batting strip.

Surprise though that Chahal is still left out and Shardul Thakur gets a game. Wanting to play a third seamer is fine but Hetmyer hit left arm spinners Jadeja and Yadav out of the park. Left vs left? Whatever happened to avoiding that?

DID YOU KNOW?

— India have lost each of their last four ODIs at home. The last time when it happened was back in 2005.

— West Indies have won each of their last four ODIs - their longest such streak since 2015.

— India's  win/loss record at Vizag in ODIs is 6-1 (out of eight ODIs) while West Indies' record at the venue is 1-1 (out of three ODIs).

— The last time when India lost first two ODIs in a home series was back in 2012 against Pakistan.

13:06 (IST)

West Indies XI: Shai Hope(w), Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, Kieron Pollard(c), Jason Holder, Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell, Khary Pierre

13:05 (IST)

India XI: Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli(c), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(w), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav

13:04 (IST)

Kohli: Not a bad pitch to bat. We wanted to field first as well. You cannot rely on that. Dew was not the massive factor in the last game. It was a good pitch to defend on. Hope and Hetmyer batted brilliantly. Shardul Thakur comes in place of Shivam Dube.

13:03 (IST)

Pollard: In night cricket, ball tends to come on to the bat.  We have to deal with what is in the present. We have two changes: Evin Lewis is back and Pierre.

Toss News: Kieron Pollard wins toss and West Indies have decided to field first

Here's the pitch report by reporter-turned-commentators Sanjay Manjrekar and Sunil Gavaskar:

SM: This is a batting paradise. This is one pitch that Virat Kohli would like to take with him. It's actually very similar to how marble flooring is — extremely smooth, no dust.

SG: Plenty of runs over here. The batsmen will be able to play their shots without worrying too much about deviation. If you and I were playing today, we would be licking our lips. India will want to chase.

12:50 (IST)

Do or die for India today and that’s the story with these short series, isn’t it? 1-0 down to West Indies in Chennai in what was a surprising result, if not shocking.

India’s team selection left a lot to be desired in that game if not their batting on a tough pitch or their bowling, which was short changed because of selection again. What can they do today?

For West Indies it is the chance of a mega series’ win in India, which not many can boast of. Can they pull it off?

The Indian team management needs to debate upon the usefulness of Shivam Dube, whose medium pace proved ineffective in the first ODI as he leaked 68 runs from his 7.5 overs. Kedar Jadhav continues to suffer injuries at regular intervals. The tactic of having bowling all-rounders who strike some lusty blows down the order didn't seem to work.

12:20 (IST)

As for India, the first ODI proved that despite a formidable looking lineup, the bowling attack could be toothless on occasion, when missing the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Deepak Chahar was economical in his spell but barring him, most of the other bowlers leaked plenty of runs. The only other West Indian wicket of the night was taken by Mohammed Shami, who too was having an off day by his lofty standards.

Just last month, the West Indies notched up their first ODI series victory since 2014, when they whitewashed Afghanistan 3-0 in Lucknow. Today, they have a chance to win another series, against far superior opponents in India. Not to mention the fact that it will silence those who were sceptical about Kieron Pollard being brought in to captain this young and inexperienced side.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the second India vs West Indies ODI which will be played in Visakhapatnam. West Indies have a 1-0 lead in the series after winning in Chennai.

India vs West Indies 2nd ODI Live Updates: Kieron Pollard wins toss and West Indies have decided to field first

Preview 2nd ODI: After conceding a 1-0 lead to West Indies in the three-match ODI series with an eight-wicket defeat, Virat Kohli-led India will now be eyeing to stay in the hunt with a series-levelling victory in the second one-dayer.

Batting at number four, Shreyas Iyer impressed with a knock of 70 in Chennai, while Rishabh Pant displayed a splendid performance with his maiden ODI fifty, registering 71 runs.

However, it was a rare batting failure for captain Virat Kohli as hosts could only manage 287 for eight wickets. West Indies achieved the target with 13 balls to spare.

Sheldon Cottrell was the pick of the bowler for the visitors. He has picked up seven wickets in his last four ODIs, and will once again lead the bowling attack along with captain Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder.

Kohli will hope his bowlers do not disappoint like they did in the previous match. Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Shami were the only wicket-takers for India, while Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope slammed tons in Windies’ victory.

Shivam Dube leaking plenty of runs was a worrying sight for the hosts, and he could make way for Yuzvendra Chahal in the lineup, who would be re-united with Kuldeep Yadav in case of the change.

West Indies, meanwhile, should go ahead with the same playing eleven from the morale-boosting victory.

For the visitors, a victory in the second match would mean their first bilateral ODI series victory over India since 2006, when Brian Lara’s men conquered over Rahul Dravid and Co on Caribbean soil.
